Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson announces lieutenant governor bid
(Twin States News) – Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson visited Meridian on Wednesday to announce his plans to run for lieutenant governor, positioning himself as a candidate with legislative and executive experience.
Speaking during a campaign stop in the city, Watson said his time in public office has prepared him for the role. He previously served in the Mississippi State Senate before being elected secretary of state in November 2019.
“My time in the state Senate, my time as secretary of state understanding the procedures in the Legislature, how to get policy passed, but also learning how to run an agency it’s been really important,” Watson said. “I think that’s one of the key separators.”
Watson said his campaign will emphasize his conservative policy record, including positions on immigration and abortion, and argued that voters have responded positively to his approach. (Continue Reading and Watch Video)
