Sec. of State Michael Watson announces run for Lt. Governor during Hattiesburg stop

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson is officially entering the race for lieutenant governor, bringing years of state government experience to the upcoming election.

Watson made the announcement Tuesday during a series of press conferences held across Mississippi, including a stop in Hattiesburg at the Jones Capital building.

A Republican candidate, Watson previously served three terms in the Mississippi State Senate representing Jackson County before being elected Secretary of State, where he has served for nearly two terms.

“I think as you look in the history here of working in the state Senate, working at the Secretary of State’s office, understanding the needs of Mississippi, I’m ready to go day one,” Watson said. “I understand the process and how the Senate works, I understand what it takes to listen to people, and I understand how to build a team.
