Michael Watson visits Meridian to announce bid for lieutenant governor
Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson held an event at Jean’s Restaurant in Meridian Wednesday announcing he will seek the office of lieutenant governor in 2027, pointing to his record in the state Senate and as the state’s top elections official as the foundation for his campaign.
Speaking to those attending, Watson said his decision followed years of public service and reflection on how he could “do more good for Mississippi.”
Watson, a Pascagoula native, described his upbringing as the son of a shipfitter and a teacher, saying those early experiences shaped his approach to public service.
